Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Operating Room position requiring 3+ years of OR experience, ACLS/BLS/PALS certification, and a WV or compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care setting in a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) with 4 rooms consisting of 3 OR suites and 1 procedure room
• Case volume varies by day, with Tuesday/Thursday averaging 20-22 cases and Monday/Wednesday/Friday averaging 6-14 cases
• Robust total joint program including hip, knee, and shoulder replacements with ROSA robot-assisted procedures
• Common cases include sports medicine, arthroscopies, non-complicated fractures, ORIF, ACL repairs, and carpal tunnel with micro-knife
• General surgery caseload includes bowel resections, scopes (approximately 40% of cases), EGDs, gallbladder procedures, appendectomies, and breast biopsies/mastectomies
• Additional specialties include OBGYN (C-sections, hysterectomies), urology, plastics, and periodic ENT cases
• Complicated fractures are transferred to higher trauma level facilities
• Uses EPIC EMR system
• Patient ratio is 1:1 with typically 2 OR techs per RN per room
• Charge nurse coverage available 24/7
• 10-hour weekday shifts from 0645-1715, 4 shifts per week
• OR is closed on weekends and holidays except for call coverage
• Weekend rotation required approximately once every 6-7 weeks
• Call requirement of approximately 3-4 call shifts per month, with weekend call (Fri/Sat/Sun) counting as 3 shifts
• Call shifts run 7a-7p Monday-Friday and 24 hours on Saturday/Sunday
• 30-minute response time required for call, with readiness to work within that window
• Scrubbing not required for RNs
• Respiratory Therapy available in-house 24/7
• No IV team on-site
• Pharmacy not available in-house 24/7, though Pyxis system is used
• Uses Phillips telemetry equipment and ventilators

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification through AHA required
• Minimum 3 years of RN experience required
• Prior OR experience required, preferably with total joint and general surgery case exposure
• EPIC EMR experience preferred
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius from the facility for travel eligibility
• Previous perm employees must have a 2-year break before reapplying
• Previous travelers who completed a full year assignment must take a 2-year break before returning

• Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced surgical environment supporting a variety of specialties
• Work alongside a dedicated team including OR techs, charge nurses, and surgeons
• Complete 3 shifts of floor-specific orientation with a preceptor following general hospital orientation
• Scrubs are provided
• Floating is not required for travelers, though some non-clinical opportunities like vaccine clinics may be available if within scope
• Holiday coverage is handled through the call rotation
• COVID vaccination required, with medical or religious exemption forms available for review
• First-time travelers will be considered if they have strong experience in similar OR settings
