Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a cancer hospital oncology unit requiring EPIC experience and a minimum of 2 years of current acute care experience in the specialty.
Details
- Work on a Med/Surg Oncology Telemetry unit within a cancer hospital setting
- Care for patients with soft tissue malignancies receiving diagnostic services, chemotherapy, and symptom management
- Provide continuous cardiac monitoring related to chemotherapy administration
- Manage patient comorbidities and disease/treatment-related symptoms
- Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
- Patient ratio of 1:4
- 12-hour rotating Day/Night shift schedule reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, with no guarantee of consistent shift assignment
- Night shift option available (3x12 hours, 19:00-07:30)
- Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level
- Uses B450 monitors with GE telemetry system, bladder scanner, Alaris pumps, and Stryker beds
- EPIC EMR experience required
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of submission
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Acute care experience must be current and consistent within the last 12 months and specific to Med/Surg Telemetry specialty
- BLS certification required
- EPIC EMR experience required
- Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Experience accessing and managing ports
- Arterial line management experience required
- Blood product administration experience required
- Central line and PICC line care/management experience required
- IV start and IV therapy/phlebotomy skills required
- Experience assisting with chest tube insertion/removal and Emerson/PleurEvac systems
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) and BiPAP/CPAP management experience required
- Interpretation of ABGs required
- Tracheostomy care/management experience required
- PCA medication management experience required
- Insulin drip titration experience required
- Chemotherapy administration experience preferred
- Oncology and Teaching Hospital experience preferred
- Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role and the second from a Charge RN or higher (no coworker references accepted)

- Provide direct patient care to oncology patients requiring telemetry monitoring, chemotherapy administration, and symptom management
- Come with a willingness to learn and grow your nursing practice
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
- Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
- Current employees of the health system are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this facility
- RTO must be submitted and built into the contract at time of submission, limited to 7 days or less
- Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements urgently upon signing contract, either by traveling to an in-state fingerprinting location or completing a mailed fingerprinting packet

Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
