Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg-Tele position requiring 2 years of Med/Surg-Tele experience at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital.
Details
- Work on a 35-bed Med/Surg-Telemetry unit within a Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital that also serves as a Chest Pain and Stroke Center
- Care for patients with orthopedic and trauma injuries, acute and chronic disease processes, post-op surgical needs, and common med-surg comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances
- RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6
- 12-hour shifts, rotating between 7A-7P and 7P-7A on a 6-week schedule cycle
- Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts out of every 12 on a 6-week schedule
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required to all adult Med/Surg and Telemetry units within the facility
- Supported by CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, resource/discharge nurses, a PICC team, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
- Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
- Unit equipment includes cardiac telemetry monitors, glucose stat strips, bladder scanners, portable oxygen systems, external fixators, chest tubes, JP/Hemovac drains, and PCA pumps
Requirements
- Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
- BLS certification required
- Must pass a Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) EKG competency exam as part of compliance
- ACLS certification preferred
- Medical-Surgical or Nephrology national certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg-Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- EPIC EMR experience required
- Strong skills in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucose management (Glucommander), insulin and heparin drip titration, IV insertion, central line management, wound care, and cardiac/telemetry interpretation required
- Experience with care coordination, discharge planning, and patient education on renal and fluid management required
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the last year required
Additional Information
- Provide direct nursing care including cardiac monitoring, wound care, post-op monitoring, and IV/central line management within a fast-paced, team-oriented unit culture
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including RT, hospitalists, intensivists, and resource/discharge nurses to coordinate patient care
- Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation
- Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of major holidays, including Thanksgiving or the day after, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve or New Year's Day
- RTO requests are subject to manager approval
- Navy scrubs required for RNs
- Free parking available on campus, with paid parking deck options also available
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- No radius rule applies for local candidates, who receive the same rate as traveling candidates
- Candidates must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before returning
