Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Stepdown & EMU night shift position requiring 2+ years of strong neuro experience and current NIHSS certification.
Details
- Acute care setting on a 31-bed Neuro Stepdown and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), with 25 stepdown beds and 6 EMU beds
- Cares for higher acuity neuroscience patients including strokes, seizures, craniotomies, and EMU patients
- Patient ratios are 1:3 for stepdown and 1:5-6 for EMU floor patients
- Uses Epic EMR
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00pm-7:30am, with 3 shifts in a row possible but not guaranteed
- Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 2 weekend shifts per schedule
- Holiday rotation required
- Possible floating to 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10W
- 24/7 charge nurse coverage on the unit
- Telemetry is present on the unit but RNs are not required to read strips
- RT available 24/7 to manage floor vents; RN vent experience not required
- Nurse aides available at a 1:8-9 ratio, 4 per shift
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- BLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required in hand at time of submission
- ACLS certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Strong overall neuroscience nursing experience required
- History of caring for stroke patients and implementing NIH Stroke Scale required
- Stepdown-qualified experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- BSN not required for this position
- Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 (2 doses of Moderna/Pfizer or 1 dose of J&J), with medical or religious exemption forms available if needed
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care within the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute Inpatient Stepdown Unit
- EVD experience preferred, though these patients are typically managed by perm staff
- Patients within 24 hours post-TPA are managed by perm staff only
- Titration of drips (Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, Insulin) is done only per physician order in this stepdown setting
- Royal blue scrub color required
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts on the unit
- Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility to be eligible, as no local travelers are accepted
- Previous perm employees must have a 2-year break before reapplying
- Previous travelers who worked a full year at this facility or elsewhere within WVU Medicine must take a 2-year break before returning
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than a cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
- Candidates can only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
- Cancellation policy allows for 2 shifts per 13-week contract
