Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a neurological specialty unit requiring a Michigan RN license, NIHSS certification, and 1-2 years of Med/Surg experience.

Details

Work on a 40-bed Medical Surgical unit specializing in neurological disorders such as stroke, epilepsy, and multiple sclerosis
Care for a diverse patient population including post-operative neuro-surgery, ortho-surgery, laminectomy, and spinal fusion patients
Unit includes 6 step-down/telemetry beds and 6 bariatric beds
Unit includes a 4-bed Neuro Monitoring Unit admitting seizure patients starting at age 5
Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
Nurse to patient ratio of 1:4 or 1:5
Required to work every other weekend
May float to other Med/Surg units, ICU units, and ED waiting rooms
Uses EPIC EMR and Pyxis medication dispensing system
Assignment length up to 26 weeks
36 or 48 hour work week options available

Requirements

Active Michigan RN license required
Current BLS (AHA) certification required
NIHSS certification required, or willingness to complete certification prior to start
1-2 years of Med/Surg experience preferred
Charge nurse experience preferred
Proof of flu vaccination required for consideration, with exemption requests submitted within 48 hours of signing
Supervisor-level references required

Additional Information

Provide direct nursing care to neurological, post-surgical, telemetry, and bariatric patients
Travelers are prioritized for floating assignments
Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a local rate differential
No holiday time-off requests accommodated, though dates may be discussed with the manager based on unit needs
RTO limited to no more than 10 days
Previous internal travelers may return after 6 months and previous permanent staff after 1 year
Completion of non-billable orientation and annual modules required, self-reported by the candidate
