Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position on nights, requiring active CA RN license and Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification.
Details
- Acute care setting in a Family Birthing Center at a Level 2 trauma facility with Level III NICU
- Unit includes 19 postpartum beds, 12 L&D beds, 2 ORs, and 1 PACU
- Cares for both low and high risk deliveries
- Nurse-to-patient ratios follow CA-mandated staffing ratios (1:4, 1:1:1)
- Uses Cerner EMR and Fetal Link for fetal surveillance; Philips system used for FHM (no telemetry on unit)
- 12-hour night shifts, with shift times running 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
- Weekend requirement of 3 shifts in a 4-week schedule (Fri/Sat nights)
- Travelers are first to float
- May float to Peds (covering couplet patients) or NICU (feeders/growers only, with prior experience)
- OB techs provide scrub and desk coverage; no dedicated nurse aides
- OB hospitalist (Laborist) in house 24/7, along with 24/7 RT and pharmacy support
- No IV team on unit
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of recent experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Advanced Fetal Monitoring (Adv-AWHONN)
- COVID vaccination required
- BSN not required for this position
- Must pass a proctored Dysrhythmia test onsite on day one (Pass/Fail)
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care for L&D, postpartum, and antepartum patients including high-risk deliveries
- Support transfers for babies with known congenital defects requiring immediate surgery
- Unit supported by a Clinical Supervisor/Team Lead 6-7 days per week and a Nurse Manager Monday through Friday
- Scrubs provided by the hospital
- Floor-specific orientation includes 12 hours, with 2-3 shifts depending on circulating skills (circulating not required)
- Holiday coverage follows the same rotation as permanent staff
- Peak assignment times for this unit occur in July and October

The cafeteria is a hit and miss. Some days they have great sea food with saffron rice! Some days microwaved food :D. But there is alwaaaaays, pizza available ;)
