Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ER RN for a Level IV trauma center night shift position requiring an active MI license and 2 years of ED experience.
Details
- Level IV trauma center ED with 14 beds and 2 trauma bays
- Fast Track area with 3 designated rooms and separate triage area with 2 rooms
- No stroke center or STEMI receiving designation; those patients are transferred out
- Treats an average of 40-60 patients per day with variable diagnoses including trauma, STEMI, stroke, hunting injuries, MVAs, and farming accidents
- Nurse to patient ratio is 1:3-4 during the day, increasing at night, with only 2 RNs on duty between 3am-7am
- ED Physician in house 24/7 along with mid-levels
- Respiratory Therapy in house 24/7 assisting with ABGs, breathing treatments, and EKGs as needed
- No dedicated monitor techs; central monitoring station with RN reading strips
- X-ray located down the hall and CT located a short distance away, both available 24/7
- 24/7 phlebotomy coverage for lab draws
- 12-hour night shifts with variable start times
- Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) required
- Holiday requirements include at least 2 of 3 winter holidays, otherwise every other holiday during the contract
- Floating to inpatient units for helping hands as needed
- EMR is a computerized charting system currently transitioning from Cerner to Epic
- Charge nurse typically takes an assignment during scheduled shifts
Requirements
- Active MI RN license required in hand
- Minimum 2 years of ED experience required
- Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), and TNCC
- BSN not required for this position
- Travelers may be asked to perform triage duties after reviewing facility policies and procedures
Additional Information
- Provide emergency department nursing care across a variety of trauma and acute presentations
- May utilize attached ACU rooms for overflow when ER holding area reaches capacity
- Any room can be converted into a psych/seclusion room as needed
- No 24/7 in-house security; relies on maintenance staff, local PD, and internal code backup for emergencies
- Support staff includes CNAs, medics, and LPNs who float to assist with tasks as needed
- Unit orientation includes computer-based training plus 2 days of floor orientation covering policies and department-specific procedures
- Dress code allows any solid color scrubs that are clean and professional
- On-call/standby is voluntary with no pay if called off
- First-time travelers and duo placements are welcome to apply
- Local candidates within 80 miles of the facility are accepted at a reduced rate
- Candidates who previously worked for the facility as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to submission
- All clinicians are required to clock in and out at the facility
