Description
American Traveler is hiring an ICU RN with a NE or compact license for a Level 2 trauma acute care unit requiring 2+ years of ICU experience.
Details
- Work in a 33-bed ICU with an average daily census of 16 patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2-3 for adult patients
- Care for trauma, cardiac, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker, stroke, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress cases
- Titrate cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation medications
- Read, interpret, and document telemetry strips using GE monitors with tele tech oversight
- Manage respiratory equipment ranging from nasal cannula to ventilators, troubleshooting as needed
- Supported by nurse aides based on census and a Healthcare Support tech 3 days per week
- 12-hour day shifts from 0630-1830
- Self-scheduling available for core staff; block scheduling not guaranteed for travelers
- Float to PCU and occasionally MedSurg at a 1:4 or 1:5 ratio
- Work every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
- Uses EPIC EMR
- On-call staff must arrive within 30 minutes if called back in
Requirements
- Active RN license (NE state or Compact/NLC)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Acute care and Level 2 trauma setting experience
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Must be able to titrate high-acuity drips and monitor telemetry
- Driver's license required at time of consideration to verify residence
Additional Information
- Provide direct ICU nursing care including drip titration, telemetry monitoring, and respiratory equipment management
- One shift of unit-specific orientation provided
- Must maintain a minimum of 7 or fewer RTO days per 13-week contract, with no additional RTO approved after submission
- Minimum of 2 holidays worked if they fall within the contract timeframe
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates may not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-associated facility (including CHI or Dignity) within the past year
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
- RNs must pass a Pass/Fail open-book exam on orientation skills with a minimum score of 90%
- First-time travelers may be considered for this position
