Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN-PACU with a CA license and teaching hospital experience for a role requiring Pediatric and Phase I/II PACU expertise

Details

  • Work in the PACU unit of an academic teaching hospital
  • Day shift schedule, 5x8 hours, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
  • Ability to float to other UCSF facilities as needed, including reassignment within a 75+ mile radius
  • Handles Pre-Post, Phase I, and Phase II recovery patients with ability to float between these areas
  • Pediatric PACU and Ambulatory/Outpatient patient populations
  • Surgical cases include ENT, Gyn, Ortho, Ortho/Spine, Ortho/Total joints, and Plastics
  • Anesthesia types include General, Local, MAC, Nerve Blocks, and Spinal
  • Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required
  • BSN required
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS (CPAN and CAPA preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience required
  • Ambulatory/Outpatient PACU experience required
  • Pediatric PACU experience required
  • Phase I and Phase II PACU experience required
  • Pre-Post PACU experience with ability to float between phases required
  • Teaching hospital experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Skilled in respiratory care including End-Tidal CO2 monitoring, airway assessment, and care of ventilated patients
  • Skilled in chest tube management and extubation of LMA/ET
  • Able to interpret Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs)
  • Experienced in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and starting/maintaining IVs
  • Skilled in blood product administration and central line care (preferred)
  • Experienced in PICC line care and management (preferred)
  • Two references from most recent employer required at time of consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide pre- and post-operative care including discharge instructions, medication reconciliation, and pre-op assessments/education
  • Perform 12 lead EKG/ECG and obtain operative/procedural consent as needed
  • Administer pre-op medications and review patient history and physical
  • Perform straight urinary catheterization for male and female patients
  • Manage wound vacs and provide cardiac monitoring with dysrhythmia recognition/management
  • Skilled in management of pediatric patients
  • Knowledgeable in malignant hyperthermia protocol and isolation precautions/PPE
  • Perform pain assessment and management, including PCA pump management
  • Familiar with RASS (Richmond Agitation Sedation Scale)
  • Knowledgeable in hyperglycemia/hypoglycemia and insulin protocols
  • Previous charge experience preferred
  • Accepts local candidates at the same pay rate as travel candidates
  • Any prior employment with University of California medical facilities or their acquired facilities must be disclosed, including dates, units, and manager names for rehire eligibility review
  • Travel pairs are allowed but generally not placed on the same unit; married couples may not work on the same unit
  • RTO must be disclosed at time of consideration and approved by the manager at time of offer, with no additional requests accepted mid-contract and no RTO permitted within the first two weeks of the assignment
