Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical ICU position requiring an active AK RN license, 2+ years of ICU experience, and prior travel nursing experience.

Details

  • Work in the Medical ICU (MICU) of an acute care hospital
  • Care for critically ill patients requiring intensive monitoring and multisystem support
  • Typical patient ratio is 1:2
  • Uses Epic for charting
  • 3x12 variable shifts, including both day (7:00-19:30) and night (19:00-7:30) rotations
  • Weekend shifts required
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • May float to like units within scope if needed to meet facility needs

Requirements

  • Active AK RN license in hand required
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (TNCC preferred)
  • Minimum of 2 years of ICU nursing experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Skills required include IV therapy, arterial line management, blood product administration, central and PICC line care, and starting/maintaining IVs
  • Respiratory care skills required including chest tube assistance, BiPAP/CPAP management, ventilator management, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and ETT/NT suctioning
  • Experience managing chronic/acute renal failure patients required
  • Medication management skills required including continuous IV sedation, cardiac and vasoactive drip titration
  • Neurological care experience required, including CVA/acute stroke management
  • GI surgery patient care experience required
  • Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia management skills required
  • Experience managing patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure required
  • Pre/post cardiac catheterization care and sheath removal experience required
  • IV insulin protocol experience required
  • Infection prevention and isolation precaution/PPE knowledge required
  • Phlebotomy skills required

Additional Information

  • Facility is a Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma hospital recognized as a USNWR Best Hospital in Alaska
  • Scrubs are provided
  • Parking is free
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be considered, and local candidates are not accepted
  • Two supervisory references are required, covering at least 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting
  • Candidates must disclose any prior work history at a Providence facility, whether as a permanent employee, travel contractor, or per-diem/registry staff
  • Former permanent staff must wait at least 3 months before returning as a travel nurse and must reside outside a 50-mile radius
  • Travelers may be required to float between sister facilities within the region
  • Must commit to working 3 of 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
  • All requested time off must be submitted upfront during the application process, as post-offer requests may not be accommodated
