Description
American Traveler is hiring a Progressive Care Unit RN for a night shift assignment requiring an active AK RN license and at least 1 year of PCU/telemetry experience.
Details
- Stepdown unit from ICU serving a wide variety of patient populations across multiple disciplines
- Utilizes a Co-Care/Virtual Nursing Model with 1 bedside RN, 1 virtual RN, and 1 CNA per patient
- Bedside RN to patient ratio of 1:4; CNA ratio of 1:6
- Virtual RN supports admissions, discharges, rounding, education, care planning, and safety rounds
- Patient population includes cardiac (CHF, MI, TAVR, MVR, pacemaker, arrhythmia, ACS), respiratory (COVID, flu, COPD, asthma, trach, home ventilator), and overflow neuro and renal patients
- Also manages complex medical-surgical cases such as ETOH withdrawal and GI bleed
- Night shift schedule, 4x12 hours, 19:00-7:30
- Weekend coverage required, potentially more frequent than every other weekend
- Floating required within scope to lower acuity units, renal care, neuro, and med-surg
- No on-call requirements
- Epic EMR used
Requirements
- Active AK RN license required (pending license accepted, but must be in hand for auto offer)
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Epic charting experience required
- Skilled in respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy management
- Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, central and peripheral line care, and blood product administration
- Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and telemetry (on-unit and remote)
- Experience with rapid response/code team involvement
- Skilled in wound care and isolation precautions/PPE
- 2 professional references required, covering 1 year of experience within the last 3 years

- Local candidates not accepted; permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility
- Former permanent staff may return as travelers after a 3-month waiting period, provided they reside outside the 50-mile radius
- Travelers may be required to float between sister facilities in the area
- Must commit to working 3 of the 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
- All requested time off must be submitted upfront during the application process
