Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring 1+ years of experience and Epic charting proficiency.

Details

• Work in a 27-bed General Medicine unit within a teaching hospital setting
• Care for patients with a variety of conditions involving respiratory, endocrine, cardiac, immune/infectious disease, and renal systems
• Patient ratio of 1:5
• Day shift schedule (3x12 hours, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM)
• Every other weekend required
• Must work 2 of the 3 winter holidays
• Floating required within scope of practice per facility float policy
• Uses Epic EMR system

Requirements

• Active VA or compact RN license required (pending license accepted, must be in hand by the Wednesday before start date)
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• Minimum 1 year of relevant RN experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Epic charting system experience required
• BSN preferred
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac), tracheostomy care, PCA, heparin protocols, IV insulin protocols and titration, wound care/wound vac, isolation precautions/PPE, and cardiac monitoring/dysrhythmia management
• Experience managing renal failure patients preferred

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care including cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
• Administer and manage medications including heparin protocols and IV insulin drips with titration
• Perform wound care and manage wound vacs as needed
• Maintain isolation precautions and proper PPE use
• Assignment length may extend through 01/02/2027 for candidates seeking longer contracts
• 36 or 48 hour weekly schedules available
• Time off requests around Labor Day cannot be accommodated
• Maximum of 40 hours of requested time off per contract
• Block scheduling cannot be accommodated
• First-time travelers are not being considered for this role
• Previous UVA Health permanent staff or internal/external travelers must have a 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning
• External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return once this limit is reached
• No radius or mileage restriction applies to this specific unit
