Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring VA or compact RN license and Epic experience.
Details
- Work in a 17-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a teaching hospital
- Unit maintains a 1:4 patient ratio
- Receives patients from the Emergency Department, Medical ICU, clinics, outside hospitals, or nursing facilities
- Cares for a wide range of medical diagnoses including diabetes, sickle cell crisis, COPD exacerbations, ESRD with pulmonary hypertension, and wound/drain/tube management
- Night shift schedule, 4x12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- 13-week contract with options for 36 or 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend and every other holiday rotation required
- Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
- Required to float within scope of practice per facility policy
- Epic EMR experience required
Requirements
- Active VA or compact RN license required (pending license accepted, must be in hand by the Wednesday before start date)
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience required
- BSN preferred
- BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
- Epic charting system experience required
- Teaching hospital, community hospital, LTAC, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, central line and PICC line management preferred
- Respiratory care skills including BiPAP/CPAP management and ABG interpretation preferred
- Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management skills preferred
- Wound care/wound vac and isolation precaution knowledge required
- Experience with pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury care preferred
- Nursys license verification required
- Two professional references required
- Copies of all required certifications required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a Level I trauma teaching hospital environment
- Maximum of 40 hours of RTO approved per 13-week contract, with no additional time off approved after offer acceptance
- Time off requests around Labor Day will not be approved
- Disclose any planned vacation between sign date and start date to ensure an appropriate start date can be arranged
- Specialty-specific orientation modules completed during onboarding, recorded in Workday
- Previous UVA permanent staff or internal/external travelers must have at least 1 year of separation and leadership approval before returning
- External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days at this facility and are not eligible to return once this threshold is reached
- First-time travelers may be considered for this position
- Local candidates are accepted for this unit
