Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a night shift teaching hospital assignment requiring VA or compact RN license and Epic experience.

Details

• Work on a 17-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit
• Care for patients transferred from the Emergency Department, Medical ICU, clinics, outside hospitals, or nursing facilities
• Treat a wide range of medical diagnoses including diabetes, sickle cell crisis, COPD exacerbations, ESRD with pulmonary hypertension, and wound/drain/tube management
• Patient ratio of 1:4
• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:00
• Work every other weekend
• Required to work 2 out of 3 winter holidays
• Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
• Float within scope of practice as needed per facility float policy
• Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

• Active VA or compact RN license (pending license accepted, must be in hand by the Wednesday before start date)
• BLS certification required, ACLS preferred
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Experience with a 1:5 patient ratio
• Required Epic EMR charting experience
• Teaching hospital, community hospital, LTAC, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
• Previous charge experience preferred
• BSN preferred
• Skills preferred: IV therapy/phlebotomy, port access/management, blood product administration, central line blood draws, PICC line management, BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube management, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, wound care/wound vac, IV insulin protocols, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, pre/post neurosurgery care, spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury care, and peritoneal dialysis

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care including IV therapy, respiratory support, wound care, and cardiac monitoring on a busy Med/Surg Tele unit
• Complete up to 16 non-billable hours of specialty-specific orientation modules, recorded in Workday
• Maximum of 40 hours RTO per 13-week contract; no additional RTO approved after offer acceptance
• Time off cannot be approved around Labor Day
• Disclose any vacation plans between sign date and start date to arrange an appropriate start date
• Previous UVA Health permanent staff or internal/external travelers must have a 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning
• External travelers may not exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return once this limit is reached
• This unit is not subject to a mileage/radius restriction
