Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a CVICU position requiring an active RN license (MD or Compact) and 2 years of CVICU experience, with strong first-time travelers encouraged to apply.
Details
- Work in the Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) of a hospital setting
- Adult and geriatric patient population
- Unit has 15 rooms/beds with an average daily census of 10
- Patient ratio is 1:1, up to 1:3 for stable, lower acuity patients
- Common diagnoses include cardiogenic shock, cardiac arrest, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, MI, PH, and advanced therapy workups such as LVAD and heart transplants
- Manages mechanical support devices including IABP and Impella
- Performs special procedures such as bedside central/A-line insertion, bronchoscopy, chest tube insertion, Swan/PA catheter insertion, targeted temperature management, and CRRT
- Uses specialized equipment including Impella, VAD, IABP, CRRT, ventilators, cooling devices, and CCO monitors
- Epic EMR experience required
- Night shift schedule of 3x12 hours (19:00-07:30)
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage required as scheduled
- Floating required within the specialty to lower acuity units as needed
- On-call may be required, pending client confirmation
- Navy blue scrub color required
Requirements
- Active RN license (Maryland or Compact) required
- BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA only)
- CPI certification required (Calm Every Storm online version accepted)
- NIHSS certification required
- CCRN certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience required
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Community hospital experience preferred
- Trauma Level I and Level II experience preferred
- Epic charting system experience required
- Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, central line care, and PICC line management
- Experience with blood product administration and TPN/lipids
- Proficient in ventilator management and interpretation of ABGs
- Experience with CRRT/CVVHD and renal management
- Skilled in titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Experience with dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Experience obtaining and interpreting 12-lead EKGs
Additional Information
- Provide direct nursing care to critically ill cardiovascular patients including those with mechanical circulatory support devices
- Perform bedside procedures and manage advanced cardiac equipment as part of daily responsibilities
- Travelers are expected to float within their specialty to lower acuity areas as needed with no restrictions
- Candidates must reside 50+ miles from the facility unless otherwise specified as accepting locals
- Maximum RTO request of 7 days; requests exceeding 4 consecutive days require an additional week added to the contract
- One major holiday off during the winter season may be allowed depending on unit staffing needs
- Returning travelers must have a minimum 6-month break from the health system before reapplying
- Former staff members must wait at least 12 months before returning as travelers
- Most locations allow one contract and one extension before requiring a 6-month break
- First-time travelers with strong CVICU experience are welcome to apply
