Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring an active MD or Compact RN license and 2 years of CVICU experience.
Details
- Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) setting within a hospital
- 15-bed unit with an average daily census of 10 patients
- Adult and geriatric patient population
- Patient ratio of 1:1, up to 1:3 for stable, lower acuity patients
- Common diagnoses include cardiogenic shock, cardiac arrest, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, MI, PH, advanced therapy workups (LVAD, heart transplants), mechanical support devices (IABP, Impella), hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and hypertensive urgency/emergency
- Performs or assists with bedside central/A-line insertions, bronchoscopy, chest tube insertion, Swan/PA catheter insertion, targeted temperature management, and CRRT
- Uses specialized equipment including Impella, VAD, IABP, CRRT, ventilators, cooling devices, and CCO monitors
- Epic EMR experience required
- Rotating 3x12 day/night shifts (7:00-19:00 / 19:00-7:30)
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage required as scheduled
- Floating required within the specialty to lower acuity units as needed
- On-call may be required
Requirements
- Active RN license (MD state or Compact) required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA only)
- CPI certification required (Calm Every Storm online version accepted)
- CCRN and NIHSS certifications preferred
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience required
- Epic charting system experience required
- Teaching hospital, community hospital, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Skills in IV therapy, arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, and blood product administration
- Experience with ventilator management, ABG interpretation, and care of ventilated patients
- Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Experience with post cardiac surgery care, IABP, Impella, and sheath removal
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing to complex cardiovascular patients including those with mechanical circulatory support devices
- Navy blue scrubs required
- First-time travelers with strong CVICU skills and experience will be considered
- Candidates must reside 50+ miles from the facility unless otherwise specified
- Maximum of 7 days RTO may be requested per contract
- Returning travelers must have a break of at least 6 months from the health system before returning
- Former staff must be separated from the health system for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
- One contract extension is typically allowed, followed by a required 6-month break before returning to the same facility or unit
- Travelers are expected to float within scope with no restrictions
