Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring a VA or compact RN license and Epic experience.

Details

• Work in a 27-bed General Medicine Unit at a teaching hospital
• Care for patients with respiratory, endocrine, cardiac, immune/infectious disease, and renal conditions
• Patient ratio of 1:5
• Day shift schedule with 3x12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
• Every other weekend required
• 36 or 48 hour weekly schedules available
• 13-week contract length
• Block scheduling cannot be accommodated
• Must adhere to facility's float policy and float within scope of practice as needed
• Epic charting system experience required

Requirements

• Active VA or compact RN license required (pending license accepted, must be in hand by the Wednesday before start date)
• BLS certification preferred, ACLS preferred
• Minimum 1 year of recent experience required
• BSN preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Travel nursing experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Skilled in respiratory care including chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac) and tracheostomy care/management
• Experience with heparin protocols and PCA medication management
• Cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Knowledge of isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac management
• Experience with IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
• Renal failure management experience

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive medical-surgical and telemetry nursing care to a diverse patient population
• Complete specialty-specific orientation modules during onboarding
• Maximum of 40 hours of RTO approved per 13-week contract, with all time off must be disclosed at time of consideration
• Time off cannot be approved around Labor Day
• Any vacation time between sign date and start date must be disclosed to arrange an appropriate start date
• No radius rule applies to this position
• Previous UVA Health permanent staff or internal/external travelers must have 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning
• External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days at this facility
• Travelers are not eligible to return after reaching 365 total assignment days, regardless of time away
