Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring a VA or compact RN license and Epic experience.
Details
- Work in a 27-bed General Medicine Unit at a teaching hospital
- Care for patients with respiratory, endocrine, cardiac, immune/infectious disease, and renal conditions
- Patient ratio of 1:5
- Day shift schedule with 3x12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
- Every other weekend required
- 36 or 48 hour weekly schedules available
- 13-week contract length
- Block scheduling cannot be accommodated
- Must adhere to facility's float policy and float within scope of practice as needed
- Epic charting system experience required
Requirements
- Active VA or compact RN license required (pending license accepted, must be in hand by the Wednesday before start date)
- BLS certification preferred, ACLS preferred
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience required
- BSN preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Trauma Level I experience preferred
- Travel nursing experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Skilled in respiratory care including chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac) and tracheostomy care/management
- Experience with heparin protocols and PCA medication management
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Knowledge of isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac management
- Experience with IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
- Renal failure management experience
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive medical-surgical and telemetry nursing care to a diverse patient population
- Complete specialty-specific orientation modules during onboarding
- Maximum of 40 hours of RTO approved per 13-week contract, with all time off must be disclosed at time of consideration
- Time off cannot be approved around Labor Day
- Any vacation time between sign date and start date must be disclosed to arrange an appropriate start date
- No radius rule applies to this position
- Previous UVA Health permanent staff or internal/external travelers must have 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning
- External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days at this facility
- Travelers are not eligible to return after reaching 365 total assignment days, regardless of time away
