Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN with at least 1 year of critical care experience for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring WV or compact RN licensure.
Details
- 18-bed ICU with all private, negative-pressure capable rooms for COVID patients
- Typical staffing ratio of 1:2, with 1:1 for CRRT/organ donation cases and possible stretch to 1:3 during overflow/stepdown situations
- Average daily census of 13 patients
- Common diagnoses include sepsis, pneumonia, COVID, CHF, COPD, DKA, overdose, renal failure, neurosurgical cases (lumbar drains, ventriculostomies), general surgery, occasional MI, and vascular patients
- EPIC EMR used for charting
- 12-hour day shifts scheduled 0700-1930
- Every-other-weekend requirement, which may fall on Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon depending on unit needs
- Guaranteed 36 hours per week
- Rare call or standby requirement
- Required to float to Stepdown and MedSurg units as needed
- Dedicated RT coverage in ICU 7a-7p, with RT covering all critical care 7p-7a
- Intensivist coverage 7a-7p daily with residents, hospitalist coverage overnight 6p-6a
- 1-2 PCTs on the unit depending on census and staffing
- Philips telemetry system used, with ICU staff responsible for monitoring, interpretation, and admitting to the system
- Remote tele techs available as back-up monitoring
- Pharmacist on unit daily from 0700-1630
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required (AHA)
- Minimum 1 year of critical care experience required
- Competency with CRRT, IABP, ventilators, post-code/therapeutic hypothermia care required
- Skilled with vasoactive medications, sedation, and paralytics required
- Must be able to titrate all critical care drips within ordered parameters
- Responsible for central line care and removal
- Prior travel nursing experience preferred
- Unexpired copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Responsible for monitoring, interpreting, and admitting patients to the telemetry system
- Self-scheduling and block scheduling allowed as long as unit needs are met, though block scheduling is not guaranteed
- Holiday coverage may be required if permanent staff coverage is insufficient
- Scrub color is royal blue; scrub jackets are optional but must be actual scrub jackets (no hoodies or sweat-jackets)
- Unit orientation includes 2 shifts of general/floor orientation
- EPIC education must be completed before starting on the floor
- General education competencies must be completed prior to arrival
- Facility requires candidates to live outside a local radius (50-100 miles depending on location) to qualify for travel rate
- Previous WVU Medicine travelers must have completed a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers are limited to one year of cumulative work within WVU Medicine before requiring a 2-year break
- Former permanent staff at certain WVU facilities may not be eligible to return as travelers
