Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Pediatric ICU position requiring 2+ years of recent independent PICU experience and CA licensure at a Level 1 trauma children's hospital.
Details
- PICU setting within a Level 1 trauma children's hospital
- High acuity unit treating injury, respiratory failure, shock, multi-system failure, poisonings, near drowning, meningitis, post-op cardiac surgical care, and neurosurgery patients
- Unit functions at the Standard Level of nursing practice
- Patient ratio of 1:1-2
- Variable Day/Night or straight night shifts, 3x12 hour shifts (7:00-19:00 or 19:00-7:00)
- Weekend requirements vary by shift: day shift requires 4 weekend shifts (Sat/Sun), night shift requires 5 shifts (Fri/Sat), with one full weekend off per 4-week schedule
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required within scope to sister units including CVPICU and NICU
- No floating to sister facilities
- Uses Epic charting system
- Any scrub color permitted
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required, or acceptable ETA of licensure for submission
- Current BLS and PALS certifications required
- Minimum 2 full years of recent, independent PICU experience required within the last year (orientation time excluded)
- Experience must include a 10+ bed PICU unit
- Level I trauma experience required; Level II trauma experience will be considered
- At least 1 prior travel assignment preferred, though strong candidates without travel experience will be considered
- Required skills: IV therapy/phlebotomy, arterial line management, ventilator management and care of ventilated patients, CVP monitoring, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and neurologic care including EVD and ICP monitoring
- Experience with multiple monitors, specifically CVP and EKG, required

- Must be willing to work 2 of the following 3 holidays (including Eves): Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's, with no holiday time off approved
- Maximum RTO of 7 days, with a minimum of 3 shifts still required during that week
- First-time travelers will be considered, especially those with strong PICU experience
- Local candidates are not accepted; candidates within 50 miles of the facility are considered local
- Former permanent staff must be separated from employment for at least 1 year before being eligible to travel
- Free traveler parking provided
