Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a night shift surgical unit position requiring VA or compact RN license and 2 years of recent surgical experience.

Details

• Fast-paced inpatient surgical unit setting
• Cares for adult and pediatric surgical patients aged 12 and above, depending on procedure
• Patient population includes general, abdominal, urological, orthopedic, spine, and bariatric surgery cases, as well as hysterectomy and mastectomy patients
• Patient ratio of 1:6
• Meditech charting system preferred
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00-7:00
• Required to work every other weekend
• Floating to other units is expected at times
• Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed, though efforts will be made to group shifts when possible

Requirements

• Active VA or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Previous surgical unit experience required
• BLS certification required
• Community hospital experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and central/peripheral line management preferred
• Experience with wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions/PPE preferred
• Experience with ortho trauma, total joint replacement, and peripheral nerve block catheters preferred
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, telemetry, and rapid response/code team protocols preferred
• Fit testing required, including shaving facial hair unless a provider-approved exemption is obtained prior to start

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care on a surgical unit, including IV therapy, wound care, and management of central/peripheral lines
• Support cardiac monitoring and respond to rapid response or code team situations as needed
• Manage patients requiring respiratory support, including chest tubes, high flow nasal cannula, and oxygen administration
• Administer medications including insulin, heparin, and PCA
• Holiday coverage is required based on the number of holidays falling within the assignment
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are not accepted
• Candidates who previously worked in a permanent role at the facility within the past 24 months are not eligible
• Zero-tolerance policy for THC, including medical marijuana cards
• Drug screening required during compliance and again on day one
• General RN orientation occurs every other Monday
