Description
American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift RN for a Med Surg/Progressive Care unit requiring at least 2 years of telemetry and acute MedSurg experience.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting on a Med Surg/Progressive Care (stepdown) unit
- 18-bed unit with 6 PCU-capable beds, all private rooms
- Unit may house COVID patients using temporary walls and dedicated air handling system
- Common diagnoses include AMI, stroke/TIA, pneumonia, renal (dialysis), afib RVR, SIRS, and diabetes
- RN to patient ratio is 1:4 on MedSurg and 1:3 on PCU/Stepdown
- Uses Phillips telemetry monitors with a dedicated monitor tech room
- Nurses validate monitor tech interpretations and document at least every 4 hours or more frequently as needed
- Administers medications such as Cardizem, amiodarone, Bumex, Lasix, Integrilin, octreotide, and Protonix
- No ventilators on unit; high flow O2 used for COVID stepdown patients and home CPAP as applicable
- Charting completed in Allscripts EMR
- Supported by charge nurse (24/7, taking 0-2 patients as needed), tele techs, HUCs, and PCTs
- CNAs split the floor, each covering up to 9 patients
- 24/7 in-house hospitalist, respiratory therapist, and pharmacy support available
- No IV team on unit
- Night shift schedule with 3x12-hour shifts
- 36-hour per week guaranteed hours with up to 3 cancellations per 13-week assignment
- Every other weekend required (nights: Friday & Saturday)
- May float to all MedSurg units as needed
Requirements
- Active RN license (AZ or Compact) required
- 2 years of experience required, 3 years preferred
- 1-2 years of telemetry experience required, including acute MedSurg setting
- Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS
- BSN not required
- Allscripts EMR experience helpful
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care on a mixed telemetry/stepdown unit, validating cardiac monitor readings and administering cardiac and renal medications
- Nurse managers conduct rounds but do not provide direct patient care
- Orientation consists of 2-3 days with a preceptor
- First-time travelers may be considered for this position
