Description

American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift RN for a Neuro Stepdown & EMU unit requiring 2+ years of strong neuro/stroke experience and NIHSS certification in hand

Details

• Acute care hospital setting on a 31-bed Neuro Stepdown and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU)
• 25 stepdown beds with 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio and 6 EMU beds with 1:5-6 ratio
• Patient population includes higher acuity neuroscience patients, strokes, seizures, craniotomies, and EMU/EVD cases
• Post-TPA and EVD patients are typically managed by permanent staff
• Titration of drips is physician-directed with some unit protocols allowing RN titration
• Telemetry is used on the unit, though RNs are not required to read strips
• Charge nurse coverage is available 24/7 and nurse aides are staffed at a 1:8-9 ratio
• Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 for floor vent management
• Uses EPIC EMR system
• Night shift schedule with 12-hour shifts (7p-7:30a), potential for 3 shifts in a row
• Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 2 weekend shifts per schedule
• Holiday rotation required
• Possible floating to 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10W units
• 2-shift unit-specific orientation provided

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
• BLS and NIHSS certification required, ACLS preferred
• NIHSS certification must be in hand at time of consideration
• Strong overall neuro experience required, including history of caring for stroke patients and implementing NIH stroke scale
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Stepdown-qualified RN experience required
• COVID vaccination required, with medical or religious exemption forms available if needed

Additional Information

• Provide care for higher acuity neuroscience patients including stroke, seizure, and craniotomy cases
• Work alongside a 24/7 charge nurse and support staff including nurse aides
• Royal blue scrub color is the required dress code
• Cancellation policy allows for 2 shifts per 13-week contract
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius from the facility to qualify for travel rate
• Previous permanent staff must have a 2-year break before returning as a traveler
• Previous travelers who completed a full year must take a 2-year break before returning
• Candidates can only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
• First-time travelers may be considered for this position
