Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring 2 years of Med/Tele experience and a GA or compact RN license.
Details
- Med/Surg Tele floor pool position in a Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital with 637 licensed beds
- Units range from 20-36 beds, caring for acute and chronic med-surg patients with co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, infections, and electrolyte imbalances
- Cares for cardiac patients (post-cath, CHF, a-fib) and post-surgical patients (general, ortho, trauma)
- RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6
- 12-hour night shifts, 7P-7A, 40 hours per week
- Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts out of every 12 on a 6-week schedule
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required to all Med/Surg and Telemetry units in the facility
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, Phillips monitors, VS3 vital sign monitors, and Nova Glucose Stat Strips
Requirements
- Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
- BLS required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
- Med-surg certification is a plus
- Required skills: trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts and IV maintenance, glucommander use, strong assessment and time management, care coordination, discharge planning, and patient education
- Required telemetry skills: cardiac rhythm monitoring and interpretation, post-cath and TR band management, and groin site management (no sheath pulls)
- Required drip management: insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, and nicardipine, with ability to titrate for HR but not BP
- Epic EMR experience required
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Work within a busy, team-oriented unit culture
- Support includes CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, a PICC team, resource/discharge nurses, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
- Lab collection is performed by phlebotomy, with RNs drawing from CVLs as needed
- Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation
- Holiday coverage required for 75% of major holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
- RTO requests must be approved through the unit manager
- Navy scrubs required for RNs
- Free parking available on campus
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Returning travelers must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position
- No radius rule applies for local candidates at GA facilities; local candidates receive the same rate as travelers
