Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with 2+ years of critical care experience for a night shift acute care hospital position requiring intubation proficiency.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting within the Respiratory Therapy department
  • Adult ICU and floor patient population, with peds and neonatal care handled separately by NICU-specific staff
  • Facility has 300+ beds
  • Night shift, 7p-7a, with some weekend work required
  • Rotating team schedule of Monday-Thursday or Friday-Sunday, with hours varying by team
  • Rotates every other holiday with permanent staff
  • No on-call requirements
  • No floating required
  • Uses MEDITECH EMR
  • In-house hospitalist or intensivist coverage 24/7 (MD or NP)
  • 24/7 in-house pharmacy support
  • Average of 13-15 patients per shift with approximately 550 treatment minutes per shift
  • Up to 4 airways per therapist in ICU assignments
  • Uses Servo ventilators (U and I models)
  • Charge RT role available, overseeing charge and clinical coordination duties

Requirements

  • Current RRT certification required
  • GA state license required if applicable
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
  • NRP certification required if working in NICU
  • Minimum 2 years of critical care experience required
  • Minimum 1 completed travel contract required
  • Experience in a 300+ bed facility required
  • Comfortable and experienced with intubating patients as first responder to codes
  • Confident managing ventilators, reading ABGs, and alerting on critical values
  • Experience placing arterial lines preferred, with training provided if needed
  • Able to manage high and heavy patient workloads

Additional Information

  • Perform full scope of RT duties including nebulizer treatments, airway management, Vapotherm, BiPAP, CPAP, ventilator management, ABG collection, bedside PFTs, and chest physiotherapy
  • In ICU settings, responsibilities include arterial line placement, blood gas management, intubation, and bronchoscopy assistance
  • Treat common conditions such as COPD, CHF, pneumonia, respiratory failure, ARDS, and cancer-related respiratory complications
  • Serve as first-line responder for intubations during codes, supported by an in-house hospitalist
  • Orientation includes hospital and charting orientation in week one, with a gradual patient load increase over the following weeks
  • ICU assignments include an additional week of orientation
  • Scrub color is ceil blue, with ceil blue jacket permitted
  • Candidates residing within 75 miles of the facility are not eligible for this position
  • Candidates previously employed by the facility within the last 12 months are not eligible
  • First-time travelers are not eligible; at least one prior travel contract is required
