Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department position requiring recent ER experience and flexibility to work varying shift start times.

Details

  • Level 1 Trauma Center Emergency Department in an acute care hospital setting
  • 60-bed unit including 14 fast-track beds with bedside triage
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-4
  • Patient population includes trauma, MVAs, GSW, blunt and piercing trauma, stroke, MI, high-risk OB, psych holds, and pediatric cases (11% of volume)
  • Facility sees approximately 80,000 visits per year and is a certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center
  • Uses Cerner EMR
  • Uses GE Lifepacks telemetry monitors and ventilators including Puritan Bennett 840, Dreager, Vision BiPAP, and V60s
  • 12-hour shifts with varying start times including 7a, 9a, 10a, 11a, 12p, and 1p for days/mids, and 3p, 5p, 7p for nights
  • Must be flexible to work all listed shift start times with no exceptions
  • Minimum 4 weekend shifts required per schedule period
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays during the holiday season
  • Traveler will be first to float, including between two ER locations approximately 7 miles apart
  • Charge Nurse and Unit Secretary support available on the unit
  • Paramedics and CNAs support the team with IV starts, IV fluids, discharges, and tech duties
  • RT and Pharmacy available 24/7, with a dedicated ER Pharmacist on days 5 days per week
  • 2-6 physicians and 2-4 midlevels in house

Requirements

  • Active AZ or Compact RN license required, pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ER/Level 1 Trauma experience required within the past year
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and ATCN or TNCC
  • Moderate conscious sedation competency required
  • Must pass a dysrhythmia exam through UNA within 48 hours of offer (2 attempts maximum)
  • Must pass a Pass/Fail sterile technique exam for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on day 1 of orientation
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide emergency care across a wide range of trauma, cardiac, stroke, OB, psych, and pediatric cases
  • Perform cardioversions and conscious sedation for closed fracture reductions
  • Floor-specific orientation consists of 2-3 days
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility based on driver's license address
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms is acceptable
  • Failure of the dysrhythmia or sterile technique exam on the second attempt results in a 6-month Do Not Use status with CommonSpirit Arizona facilities
