Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a Level 2 trauma teaching hospital, requiring an active GA or compact RN license and at least 2 years of ICU experience.
Details
- 12-hour night shift (1900-0700), 36 hours per week over a 13-week assignment
- Work in a combined Medical, Surgical, Neuro, and Cardiac ICU with 26 beds
- Patient population includes drug overdose, MI, subarachnoid hemorrhage, sepsis, ARF, AAA, acute hypoxic respiratory failure, and suicide attempts
- ICU ratios are 1:2, increasing up to 1:3 depending on acuity
- Travelers are not assigned CRRT or IABP patients
- Required to float to all Medical-Surgical and Critical Care areas, including ED boarders
- Uses EPIC EMR
- Weekend rotation is every other weekend
- Rare on-call requirement during periods of low census
Requirements
- Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- CPI certification required (facility will provide training if not already certified)
- TNCC and CCRN certifications preferred
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, with recent experience within the last year
- ICU skills required: arrhythmia monitoring, sedation and paralytics administration, titratable drips, CVP monitoring, post-craniotomy care, and TPA administration
- At least one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required for consideration
- Last four digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

- Responsibilities include managing cardiac drips, arrhythmia monitoring, sedation/paralytic administration, CVP monitoring, TPA administration, and post-craniotomy patient care
- Supported by a team including CNAs/nurse techs, respiratory therapists, phlebotomists, educators, safety sitters, virtual patient observers, virtual RNs, and security
- Orientation includes one week of facility-wide NEO followed by 2-3 days of department-specific training
- Holiday coverage required for approximately 70% of holidays
- Navy scrub color required
- Free parking provided
- Department emphasizes teamwork, prompt response to call lights and telemetry alerts, and mutual support among staff
- First-time travelers will be considered, though experienced travelers are preferred
- No radius rule applies for this GA facility; local candidates receive the same pay rate
- Previous employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least one year if they held a permanent position there
