Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Orthopedic RN for a fast-paced Med/Surg unit requiring 2+ years of acute care experience with ortho background and NC/compact RN license.
Details
- Ortho unit within a hospital setting caring for orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical patients
- 39-bed unit with an average daily census of 37
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 5-6:1, flexing up to 7:1 in extreme cases
- Night shift, 3x12 hours (18:45-07:15)
- Option for 36 or 48 hours per week
- Block scheduling available (F/S/S or S/S/M)
- Every other weekend required, with make-up time required for weekend call-offs
- Required to float to other med-surg units within the facility based on census needs
- Epic EMR experience required
- Fast-paced unit requiring strong pain management skills for ortho and spine patients
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license/certifications acceptable at submission
- Current certifications: BLS and NIHSS required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of inpatient acute care experience required, including at least 1 year of ortho experience
- Epic charting experience required
- Skills required: IV starts and telemetry
- Experience preferred with BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, heparin protocols, peripheral nerve block catheters, and spinal cord injury care
- Experience with neuro spine post-surgical patients and hip trauma patients preferred
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- Level I Trauma experience preferred
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
Additional Information
- Provide nursing care to a fast-paced ortho and neuro spine population requiring close pain management
- Weekly orientation provided
- Must complete approximately 8-10 hours of pre-start and annual online modules using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge
- Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
- Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
- Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
- Travel pairs are allowed if placed on different units with separate schedules and independent transportation
- First-time travelers considered if they have Epic experience
- Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (perm/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details for facility approval
- Current travel per diem clinicians with the health system must choose between per diem or travel status
