Description
American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg Tele RN for a night shift position requiring ortho experience and an active NC or Compact RN license.
Details
- Work on a Med/Surg-Tele unit caring for orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical patients
- Unit has an average daily census of 37 with 39 beds
- Patient ratios average 5-6:1, flexing up to 7:1 in extreme cases
- 12-hour night shifts (7:15pm-7:15am), with 36 or 48 hour weekly options
- Block scheduling available (F/S/S or S/S/M)
- Every other weekend required, with missed weekend shifts requiring makeup
- Floating required to other med-surg units based on facility census
- Fast-paced environment focused on pain management for ortho and spine patients
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license accepted at submission
- Minimum 2 years inpatient acute care experience required, including at least 1 year of ortho experience
- Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- Level I Trauma experience preferred
- Epic charting experience required
- Skills required include IV starts and telemetry monitoring
- Additional skills include respiratory support (BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC), cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and isolation precautions
- First-time travelers considered if they have Epic experience
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care for ortho, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical patients with a focus on pain management
- Weekly orientation provided for new travelers
- Pre-start modules required (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles), completed online via Chrome or Edge, with annual renewal
- Local candidates accepted within 50 miles at a reduced rate
- Previous Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying, with facility approval required
- Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved excluding holidays, with no RTO permitted during the first week
- Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- Travel pairs allowed if assigned to different units and each has their own transportation
- Minimum contract length is 13 weeks
