Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level IV NICU position requiring 2+ years of NICU IV experience and recent trach/vent skills.
Details
- Level IV NICU setting within a children's hospital providing the highest level of care for premature and critically ill newborns
- 70 beds dedicated to Neonatal ICU within a 323-bed teaching, Level 1 Trauma Center
- Patient population includes neonates from <24-28 weeks to >34 weeks gestation
- Various patient ratios depending on acuity, most commonly 1:2 (also 1:1, 1:3, and rarely 1:4)
- 4x12 hour Day (7:00-19:30) or Night (19:00-7:30) shifts with rotation required every 3-4 weeks (not within the same week)
- Every other weekend and every other holiday required
- No on-call requirements
- Will float within scope to other critical care units including PICU and CICU, with cross-training as needed
- Uses Cerner charting system
Requirements
- Active DC RN license required; must apply within 24-48 hours of signing if not already active
- MD/VA compact or state license also required
- Current BLS certification required; NRP and PALS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of Level IV NICU experience required (2+ years of NICU IV experience preferred)
- Recent tracheostomy and ventilator management experience required (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BIPAP/PEEP)
- Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, and administration of blood/blood products
- Experience with emergency medications, IV vasopressors, antibiotics/antivirals
- Skilled in blood glucose monitoring and phototherapy
- Experience with feedings (bottle, breast, gavage) and placement/management of NG/NJ tubes
- Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and sepsis work-up
- Experience with breastfeeding support and handling of breast milk
- Experience with colostomy/ileostomy management preferred
- No prior background or license hits allowed, with no exemptions accepted
Additional Information
- Coordinate care for complex conditions including congenital heart defects, ECMO, respiratory distress/failure, pulmonary hypertension, renal disorders, and sepsis/septic shock
- Facility offers full range of pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists and pediatric anesthesiologists on site
- Complex surgical procedures performed to repair congenital or acquired conditions
- Scrubs may be any color but must be logo-free and child-friendly
- No age cutoff for patients when floating to other critical care units
- Local candidates accepted with no mileage restriction at the same bill rate
- Pending DC license accepted for consideration with proof of application and pending license number; active license required prior to start date
- RTO limited to no more than 7 days; missed full-week RTO must be made up at the end of the contract
- No RTO permitted after initial offer
- Returning travelers must have been separated from the facility for at least 1 year
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
