Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with a Maine or compact license for a 26-bed Level II Trauma Center ICU requiring strong neuro and trauma critical care skills.

Details

• 26-bed ICU at a Level II Trauma Center with 411 total beds, including some negative pressure rooms
• Patient population includes medical, surgical, trauma, neuro, ortho, and interventional cases
• Manages complex conditions such as ICP monitoring, EVD, spinal precautions, DKA, multi-system trauma, sepsis, ARDS, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, and stroke
• Patient ratio of 1:2 based on acuity, occasionally increasing to 3 during discharge or transfer
• 12-hour night shifts (7P-7A), 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation required every other weekend (Fri/Sat nights)
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required to Cardiac Care Unit, Cardiac or Medical Stepdown, and PICU (if pediatric experienced)
• Uses Cerner EMR (experience preferred), Alaris infusion pumps, and Pyxis medication system

Requirements

• Active RN license (Maine or compact) required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; PALS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• Neuro and trauma experience required, including EVD and ICP monitoring
• Skilled in ventilator management, critical care drips, drain management, stroke care, hemodynamic lines (A-lines/CVP), cardiac rhythm recognition, chest tubes, and tracheostomy care
• Strong clinical assessment skills required
• PICU experience preferred but not required
• Flu vaccination required for clearance to start (medical exemptions only, with 2 weeks minimum for review)

Additional Information

• Deliver critical care nursing to a high-acuity ICU population with complex neuro and trauma needs
• Unit supported by 24/7 Resource Nurse/House Supervisor, in-house Respiratory Therapy, Hospitalist, and Intensivist consult, plus weekday PT/OT
• Charge role is unassigned but may be required to take patients during critical staffing situations
• Trauma Surgery team manages their own patients independently
• Orientation includes general hospital orientation followed by one shift on the unit
• Holiday coverage varies based on facility need and requires manager approval
• Scrub color must be a solid, professional shade
