Description
American Traveler is hiring a night-shift RN for a Med Surg/Progressive Care unit requiring telemetry experience and an active AZ or compact RN license.
Details
- Acute care Med Surg/Progressive Care (stepdown) unit with 18 beds, including 6 PCU-capable beds, all private rooms
- Unit may house COVID patients using temporary walls and a dedicated air handling system
- RN to patient ratios are 1:4 for Med Surg and 1:3 for PCU/Stepdown
- Charge nurse available 24/7 and takes patients as needed
- Support staff includes telemetry techs, HUCs, PCTs, and CNAs
- Common diagnoses include AMI, stroke/TIA, pneumonia, renal failure/dialysis, afib RVR, SIRS, and diabetes
- Uses Philips telemetry monitors with a dedicated monitor tech room; nurses validate monitor tech interpretations and document at least every 4 hours
- Administers medications such as Cardizem, amiodarone, Bumex, Lasix, Integrilin, octreotide, and Protonix
- No ventilators on unit; high flow O2 used for COVID stepdown patients and home CPAP for others
- Hospitalist, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy available 24/7; no IV team
- Charts using the Allscripts EMR
- Night shift schedule with 3x12-hour shifts and a 36-hour per week guarantee
- Every other weekend required (Fri/Sat nights or Sat/Sun days)
- May float to other Med Surg units
Requirements
- Active RN license (AZ or Compact) required
- BLS and ACLS certification through AHA required
- NIHSS certification required
- 2 years of RN experience required, 3 years preferred
- 1-2 years of telemetry experience required, including MedSurg acute care setting experience
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care within a stepdown telemetry unit, monitoring cardiac and acute medical patients
- Receive a 2-3 day orientation with a preceptor
- Nurse managers conduct rounds but do not provide direct patient care
- Cancellation policy allows up to 3 cancellations per 13-week assignment
