Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU Float RN for a Colorado Springs-based Zone 1 assignment requiring a CO or Compact RN license and prior critical care float experience.

Details

• Acute care ICU Float Pool covering a combination of MICU, SICU, TICU, and CVICU units
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1-2 depending on acuity, may flex up to 1:3, with 1:1 for high acuity patients (CRRT, IABP, Impella)
• Uses Epic EMR
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a)
• 6-9 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule
• Must float within Zone 1 facilities: Penrose Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, St. Francis InterQuest, St. Mary Corwin, and St. Thomas More
• May be required to float into other acuity levels including PCU/Stepdown and MS-Tele units
• Rare on-call/standby requirement during low census periods
• No home base facility; float assignment communicated on or before start date
• No nurse aides on unit; support staff used only for sitter needs

Requirements

• Active CO or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications (AHA)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• First-time travelers require 3+ years of ICU experience and prior Epic experience
• Must be comfortable titrating critical drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, antiarrhythmics, heparin, and insulin
• Must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide ICU-level nursing care across a combination of critical care units within the assigned float zone
• Designated charge nurse present on each unit, typically without a patient assignment unless necessary
• Designated respiratory therapist available for the ICU but not always on-site; RNs expected to assist with respiratory troubleshooting and management
• Unit utilizes ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow oxygen, and breathing treatments
• Unit-specific orientation consists of 1-2 days with a preceptor
• Schedules are released 4-6 weeks in advance and may include single-facility assignments or just-in-time facility placement with 1-2 hours notice
• May be required to participate in holiday rotation coverage
• Any scrub color is acceptable
• Must maintain a permanent residence at least 60 miles from the Colorado Springs city center
• First-time travelers will be considered if they meet the 3+ years ICU experience and Epic experience requirements
• Candidates who have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility within the past year are not eligible
