Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery/Postpartum position requiring a CA RN license and advanced fetal monitoring certification.

Details

• Acute care setting in a Labor & Delivery/Postpartum unit
• Unit includes 7 L&D beds, 4 triage beds, 2 overflow beds, and 27 postpartum beds with a 5-bed nursery
• Handles approximately 3 births per day and 1,545 births per year
• Patient population includes high-risk deliveries of any gestational age, EMT drop-offs, substance withdrawal cases, and a large Spanish-speaking population
• Patients with no prenatal care are treated, with transfer to another facility if higher acuity care is needed
• Follows AWHONN staffing ratio guidelines
• Uses Cerner EMR with FetalLink fetal heart monitoring system integration
• Philips telemetry monitors used; no ventilator management required
• Night shift schedule, 7pm-7:30am, 12-hour shifts
• Every other weekend rotation required, with 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• On-call is optional but preferred
• L&D nurses float to postpartum and NICU for grower/feeder care; postpartum nurses float to L&D and may assist in NICU
• OB/Neonatologist available in-house or on-call 24/7 with a 30-minute response time
• Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
• No IV team on-site
• Charge or shift manager present on both L&D and PP units, with resource nurses covering breaks
• OB techs support with c-section scrubbing, deliveries, supply stocking, and patient intake

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP, and Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AWHONN intermediate or advanced); STABLE certification preferred
• 2-3 years of RN experience required
• Must be able to circulate for c-section cases; scrubbing experience not required
• L&D nurses must have prior postpartum experience
• At least one prior travel contract preferred
• COVID vaccine required
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care across L&D and postpartum units, including high-risk deliveries and newborn care
• Navy scrub color required
• Floor-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts
• Holiday coverage required, typically one major and one minor holiday, worked alongside permanent staff
