Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a night shift position requiring 2+ years of experience and a VA or compact RN license.

Details

• Work on a 32-bed Medical/Surgical unit focused on innovative technology and nursing practice
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-7:00)
• Every other weekend required
• Patient ratio of 1:6
• Uses Hercules beds and Meditech charting system (preferred)
• Floating required to cover staffing needs as needed
• Holiday rotation required, working one summer and one winter holiday

Requirements

• Active RN license (VA or Compact) required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg RN experience required
• Community hospital experience preferred
• Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and peripheral line care required
• Experience with oxygen administration, oral suctioning, and nasal cannula required
• Experience with insulin and PCA medication administration required
• Isolation precautions/PPE knowledge required
• Telemetry and cardiac monitoring experience required
• Rapid response/code team experience preferred
• Wound care/wound vac experience preferred
• Central line blood draw and tracheostomy care skills preferred

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care on an innovative medical/surgical unit that adopts new technologies and nursing practice models
• Participate in a self-scheduling system with staff assigned to rotating groups each week
• RTO limited based on number of holidays falling within the assignment: work one holiday if one falls in assignment, one of two if two fall, or two of three if three fall
• Complete a drug screen at Employee Health on first day before starting first shift on the following day
• Fit testing required; facility policy mandates shaving for fit test unless a provider-approved exemption letter is obtained in advance
• Zero-tolerance drug policy in place; medical marijuana cards are not accepted
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are not accepted
• Candidates who previously worked as permanent staff at this facility within the last 24 months will not be considered
