Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week day shift assignment requiring 2 years of experience and a 1:6 patient ratio on a Dedicated Education Unit.

Details

• 22-bed Medical Surgical unit that serves as a Dedicated Education Unit focused on training newly graduated nurses
• Day shift schedule of 3x12-hour shifts from 7:00 to 19:00
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday rotation required, with one summer and one winter holiday assignment
• Staff self-schedule in rotating groups on a weekly basis
• 1:6 patient ratio
• Meditech charting system preferred
• Floating required to cover staffing needs as needed

Requirements

• Active RN license (VA or Compact) required
• BLS certification required, CPI preferred
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg RN experience required
• Community hospital experience preferred
• Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and peripheral line care/management
• Experience with respiratory care including oxygen administration, nasal cannula, and tracheostomy care
• Experience administering medications including Heparin, Insulin, and PCA
• Experience with isolation precautions and PPE
• Experience with renal failure and pre/post hemodialysis management preferred
• Experience with cardiac monitoring and telemetry/remote monitoring
• Wound care/wound vac experience preferred
• Chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac) preferred
• BiPAP/CPAP management and high flow nasal cannula experience preferred
• Feeding tube care and colostomy/ileostomy management experience preferred
• Central line and PICC line management, blood product administration, and port access experience preferred

Additional Information

• Serve as a preceptor and mentor to newly graduated nurses on a Dedicated Education Unit
• Drug screen required at Employee Health on the first day prior to starting the assignment, in addition to compliance drug screening
• Fit testing is required, and candidates must be clean-shaven unless a pre-approved medical exemption is obtained before starting
• Zero-tolerance policy for THC, and medical marijuana cards are not accepted
• RTO policy requires working at least one holiday if one falls during the assignment, one if two fall during the assignment, and two if three fall during the assignment
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates are not accepted, and candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility
• Previous perm employees who worked for the facility within the last 24 months will not be considered
