Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Intermediate Care/Telemetry unit position requiring an active MD or Compact RN license and strong IMC/ICU-level experience due to the high acuity patient population.
Details
- Intermediate Care Unit (IMC/PCU/Stepdown) within a hospital setting
- High acuity unit caring for low-level ICU patients along with overflow MS/Tele patients
- Adult to geriatric patient population
- RN to patient ratio of 1:3, up to 1:4 with lower acuity telemetry or med/surg patients
- Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (08:00-20:30), 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required to the ICU as well as within specialty and lower acuity units
- No pre-scheduled on-call requirements
- 8-week contract length
- Uses Epic EMR
Requirements
- Active RN license (Maryland state or Compact) required
- BLS and ACLS certification through AHA required
- NIHSS and CPI certification required
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
- Strong IMC or ICU-level clinical experience required due to high acuity patient population
- Community hospital experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Experience with critical care skills such as arterial line management, central line care, ventilator care, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
Additional Information
- Care for high acuity patients requiring close monitoring and advanced interventions such as post-neurosurgical care, dysrhythmia management, and non-invasive airway support
- Responsibilities may include managing chest tubes, tracheostomy care, wound care, and rapid response situations
- First-time travelers will be considered if they have strong IMC/ICU-level experience
- Holiday coverage required as scheduled
- Candidates must live 50+ miles from the facility to be eligible for the travel pay rate
- Former travelers must have completed at least a 6-month break from the health system before returning
- Former staff employees must be separated from the health system for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
- Extensions are generally limited to one contract plus one extension, followed by a required 6-month break before returning to the same facility or unit
