Description

American Traveler is hiring a Chemo Certified Oncology RN for an inpatient acute leukemia and hematology unit requiring OCN chemo certification and prior hematology-oncology experience.

Details

• Inpatient oncology unit specializing in acute leukemia and hematology care
• Adult and geriatric patient population, primarily newly diagnosed acute leukemia patients
• High volume of blood product administration, IV antibiotics, and electrolyte management
• Target staffing ratio of 1:4, up to 1:5
• Rotating 12-hour day/night shifts (7:00-19:30 or 19:00-7:30) on a 3x12 schedule
• No set/blocked scheduling; shift assignments reviewed every 4-week period based on staffing needs
• Variable weekend requirements based on unit needs
• Charting completed in Epic

Requirements

• Active OH RN license or compact license required in hand at time of consideration
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy certification required
• NIHSS certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years overall nursing experience required
• Minimum 1 year inpatient hematology-oncology experience required, current within the last 12 months
• Acute care experience must be current and in the applicable specialty
• Prior travel nursing experience required from an inpatient unit
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Skilled in IV therapy, starting and maintaining IVs, and phlebotomy
• Experience with central line and PICC line care and blood draws
• Experience accessing and managing ports
• Experience administering and monitoring chemotherapy, including body fluid handling post-chemotherapy
• Experience managing oncologic emergencies including tumor lysis syndrome and sepsis
• Experience caring for patients with leukemia, blood dyscrasias, and lymphoma; multiple myeloma experience preferred
• Ability to interpret dysrhythmias
• Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager/director or supervisor and no coworker references accepted

Additional Information

• Provide direct care to newly diagnosed acute leukemia patients including chemotherapy administration and monitoring
• Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls prevention
• Use Rapid Response Team protocols as needed
• Responsible for feeding tube care, peripheral line management, and IV starts
• Must complete Ohio fingerprinting process urgently upon contract signing due to strict compliance timelines
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this role
• Former employees eligible for travel assignment only after 6+ months away from the facility
• Current employees of the health system are ineligible for this travel position
• RTO must be submitted with application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate
