Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Oncology Chemo Certified position requiring ONS/ONCC chemotherapy certification and inpatient hematology-oncology experience.
Details
- Inpatient oncology unit specializing in acute leukemia and hematology care
- Cares for adult and geriatric patients newly diagnosed with acute leukemia
- High-acuity unit with frequent blood product administration, IV antibiotics, and electrolyte management
- Staffing ratio goal of 1:4, though may be up to 1:5
- 12-hour rotating day/night shifts (7:00-19:30 or 19:00-7:30) with no set/blocked scheduling
- Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on staffing needs
- Variable weekend requirements based on unit needs
- Uses Epic charting system
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Certification
- Preferred certification: NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years overall nursing experience required
- Minimum 1 year inpatient hematology-oncology experience required
- Acute care experience must be current and within the specialty applied for, consistently over the last 12 months
- Prior travel nursing experience required, must be from an inpatient unit
- Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- Skills required: IV therapy/infusions, accessing and managing ports, blood and blood product administration, central line blood draw and care, PICC line care, starting and maintaining IVs, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, body fluid handling post-chemotherapy, recognition of abnormal lab values, and interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Experience managing oncologic emergencies including tumor lysis syndrome and sepsis
- Experience caring for patients with leukemia/blood dyscrasias required; lymphoma and multiple myeloma experience preferred
- 2 professional references required, with at least one from a manager, director, or supervisor; charge RN acceptable for second reference; coworker references not accepted
Additional Information
- Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls prevention
- Utilizes Rapid Response Teams as needed
- Provides feeding tube care and management, peripheral line care, and phlebotomy
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this role
- Former employees eligible for travel assignment only after 6+ months away from the facility
- Current employees of the health system are ineligible for this travel position
- Locals accepted at the same rate
- RTO must be submitted with application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
- Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing contract due to strict compliance timelines

Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
