Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for an Oncology PCU position requiring 2 years acute care experience with at least 1 year in PCU and an active OH or compact RN license.
Details
- Work on a 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care
- Treats adult patients with solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses; pediatric oncology patients are rarely seen and primarily cared for by permanent staff
- Patient ratios are approximately 1:4-5 for Med Surg Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU
- Uses B450 GE telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, continuous bladder irrigation, and PCA pumps
- Epic charting system experience required
- Rotating 12-hour day/night shifts (7:00-19:30 or 19:00-7:30), scheduled in 4-week increments based on department needs
- Weekend shifts are variable
- Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months, including at least 1 year of PCU experience
- Nursing education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- Skills required include dysrhythmia interpretation, rapid response team utilization, feeding tube care, port access, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line care, IV starts, heparin protocols, non-titrated cardiac drip management, PCA management, chest tube care (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula use, and tracheostomy management
- Preferred skills include dysrhythmia management, IV insulin protocols, insulin drip titration, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, surgical drain care, and non-invasive airway management
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Oncology experience preferred but not required
- 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a manager/director or formal leadership role and the second acceptable from a Charge RN; no coworker references accepted
Additional Information
- Provide nursing care with a heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
- Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is welcomed for those without prior travel experience
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Locals are accepted at the same rate
- Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
- Current employees are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this health system
- RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
- Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements promptly after signing the contract, either by traveling to an Ohio fingerprinting location or completing a mailed fingerprinting packet

Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
