Description

American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift RN for a Surgical Oncology PCU/Med-Surg unit, requiring an OH or compact RN license and at least 1 year of PCU experience.

Details

  • Mixed acuity Surgical Oncology unit caring for both PCU and Med-Surg patients
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM-7:30 AM)
  • May be scheduled for a rotating combination of days and nights based on department needs, reviewed every 4-week period
  • Patient ratios typically 1:4, but can be 1:5
  • Weekend requirements vary based on unit needs
  • No set or blocked scheduling offered
  • Floating required within scope of practice
  • Adult and geriatric patient population
  • Cares for surgical oncology patients including breast, thyroid, melanoma, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and plastics/reconstructive cases
  • Manages chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, oncologic emergencies, cytokine release syndrome, insulin drips, and heparin drips
  • Strong emphasis on infection prevention and fall prevention protocols
  • Uses Epic charting system

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license required at time of submission
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • ONS Chemo certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months
  • At least 1 year of PCU experience required
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role; Charge RN acceptable for second reference; no coworker references accepted

Additional Information

  • Care team includes permanent staff who are all PCU trained
  • Candidates should come with a willingness to learn and grow their nursing practice
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Former employees eligible for travel assignment after 6+ months away from the facility
  • Current employees of this health system are ineligible for travel assignments at any of its Ohio hospital locations
  • RTO must be submitted with application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing contract due to strict credentialing timelines
  • Candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location soon after booking; those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet

Pros

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.

Cons

Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
