Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN for a night shift contract at a Level II Trauma Center, requiring an active AL or compact RN license and at least two years of critical care experience.

Details

  • Level II Trauma Center Emergency Department with 71 beds functioning at Level I acuity
  • Treats multi-system trauma, STEMI, stroke, CHF, COPD, GI, GU, OB/GYN, pediatric, and psychiatric patients
  • Patient ratios of 1:4 in the ER, 1:5 for medical-surgical holds, and 1:3 for ICU holds
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) on a 36-48 hour schedule with a 4-week scheduling cycle
  • Weekend rotation required (every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month on block schedule)
  • No on-call requirements and no floating to other units
  • Unit support includes CNA (1:12 ratio), charge nurse, HUC/receptionist, phlebotomy until 0300, IV/VAT team, and hospitalist coverage
  • No telemetry monitoring tech support on the unit
  • Uses Cerner EMR, Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors

Requirements

  • Active AL or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Secure/CPI certification (nationally recognized/JCAHO accepted) required
  • Minimum 2 years of critical care experience (ICU or ER)
  • Most recent year of experience must be in a Level II ER or higher
  • Cerner or Epic EMR experience required
  • Skills required include trach care, vent care, ICU drip management, chest tube, arterial line, CVL, PICC, midline, port, foley, splint/ortho device application, BiPAP/HiFlow, and continuous bladder irrigation

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers considered if they have at least 2 years of experience, Cerner or Epic experience, and Level II trauma or higher experience
  • New facility travelers or those returning after 1+ years receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on the unit
  • Holiday coverage expected for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy, though specific scheduling is not contractually guaranteed prior to arrival
  • Approval for up to 7 days of time off can be granted, excluding facility blackout dates
  • Extensive facility blackout dates apply throughout 2026, including major holidays and several full weeks
  • Any solid color scrubs permitted
  • Parking available in a parking garage
  • Candidates must live outside a 60-mile radius of the facility as no local candidates are accepted
  • Former Baptist Health staff must wait 6 months after separation before being considered as a traveler
