Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ER RN for a night shift position requiring TX or compact RN license, prior travel experience, and TNCC/NIHSS certifications.
Details
- Work in the Emergency Department of a hospital setting
- General ED serving combined adult/pediatric patients
- STEMI and Stroke Certified facility
- Community hospital setting
- Patient ratio of 1:4
- Night shift schedule (4x12 hours), typically 19:00-7:00
- One shift per 6-week schedule may vary between 12p-12a or 11a-11p
- 6 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule (Saturday and/or Sunday)
- One on-call shift required per 6-week schedule
- May consider candidates for 36 hours/week
- Allscripts charting system preferred but not required
Requirements
- Active TX or compact RN license required in hand at time of submission
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC
- Minimum 2 years of ER experience required
- Prior travel experience required
- Skilled in triage and isolation precautions/PPE
- Experience managing cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmias, and emergency response
- Proficient in obtaining 12-lead EKG/ECG
- Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, and starting/maintaining IVs
- Experience managing respiratory conditions including BiPAP/CPAP and ventilated patients
- Experience with emergency medications and IV vasopressors
- Experience managing psychiatric patients including acute psychosis, suicidal patients, and violent behavior
- Experience treating pediatric patients including asthma, seizures, and infections
- Experience managing orthopedic trauma and splinting
- Ability to complete lab requirements within 72 hours of accepting offer
Additional Information
- Provide emergency care across a wide range of adult and pediatric conditions including trauma, cardiac, respiratory, neurological, and psychiatric cases
- Manage patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- Perform triage and infection control using appropriate PPE
- Facility conducts its own onsite drug screening, including marijuana testing, and a positive result results in automatic cancellation
- Candidates should avoid any products, including CBD, that could result in a positive drug screen
- Previous permanent staff must have been separated from the facility for at least one year to return as a travel employee
- Candidates must reside within 150 miles for local RN consideration; local candidates are not accepted for this role
- Document due date is Thursday at 2pm CST prior to start, with some flexibility based on facility communication

Cons
High acuity and often short staffed. Very busy. Probably one of the hardest places ive worked but you see ALOT and use your skills!! Tired after every shift. Definitely not for the weak. You really need some experience to work here.
