Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring 3 years of experience and MO or compact RN licensure with dual Kansas/Missouri licensure for floating.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting with 74 total staffed beds
  • LDRP unit providing labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum care
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
  • Patient ratios of 1:1 to 1:3
  • Weekend rotation of 4-6 weekend shifts (Sat/Sun) plus 2 Fridays per 6-week schedule
  • Holiday coverage required: 1 major holiday and 1-2 minor holidays per schedule
  • On-call requirement of 2 mandatory shifts per 6-week schedule
  • Charge RN assignments as needed per unit
  • Full couplet care required with expected floating within LDRP unit and potentially between departments, units, and facilities
  • Epic charting system required
  • Facility performs fewer than 100 births per month
  • Unit handles vaginal births, C-sections, postpartum LDRP care, antenatal testing (NSTs, BPP by radiology), post-op GYN care, external cephalic version, and antepartum care

Requirements

  • Active RN license (MO or compact) required, with both Kansas and Missouri or compact licensure in hand at time of consideration due to floating requirements
  • Minimum 3 years of RN experience required, with 2 years of recent in-specialty experience including a full year within the past 12 months and no employment gaps greater than 90 days
  • Community hospital experience preferred
  • Required certifications: BLS, NRP
  • Preferred certifications: AWHONN Advanced, AWHONN Intermediate, FHM
  • Proficiency in IV therapy and phlebotomy, including blood/blood product administration, venous blood draws, peripheral IV placement, and infusion pump use
  • Labor and delivery management skills including amnioinfusion, vaginal delivery assistance, C-section circulating, forceps/vacuum extraction, and hemorrhage/shock management
  • Experience with medication administration including antihypertensives, magnesium sulfate, pitocin, prostaglandins, and terbutaline
  • Neonatal care skills including cord sample collection and infant ID banding
  • Newborn care skills including circumcision assistance, cord care, discharge teaching, newborn assessment, and phototherapy
  • Antepartum care skills including NSTs, sterile vaginal exams, and external fetal heart monitoring
  • Postpartum care skills including breastfeeding support, foley catheter management, fundus/lochia/perineum care, and wound care
  • Experience managing postpartum patients with cesarean section, couplet care, multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage, and pregnancy-induced hypertension
  • Fetal monitoring skills including recognition of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns, spiral electrode placement, internal/external fetal monitoring, and IUPC placement and calibration
  • Pain management experience including epidural anesthesia, opioids, and PCA use
  • Post-operative gynecology care experience (e.g., hysterectomy)
  • Previous travel nursing experience required
  • 2 professional references required, one from a supervisor and one from a charge RN, both from within the past year

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive care across triage, C-section circulating, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patient assignments
  • Navy scrub color required
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this role
  • Must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible for consideration
  • No local candidates accepted regardless of bill rate
  • RTO limited to a maximum of 7 days, with all time off requests finalized at time of consideration
  • Returning staff must have a 3-month break in service with 18 months tenure policy; permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Block scheduling is not accommodated for this position
