Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring ICP monitoring, ventilator management, and prior travel nursing experience.
Details
- 26-bed Neuro and Surgical ICU (NSICU) within a comprehensive stroke center
- Cares for neuroscience intensive care patients including stroke, seizure, and traumatic brain injury cases
- Patient ratios typically 2:1, occasionally 3:1
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts (3x12), 18:45-7:15
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required to other ICUs and intermediate units
- Uses Pyxis and EPIC for medication management and documentation, with SBAR communication
- Utilizes EVD management, ventilator management, Zoll temperature management/Arctic Sun, and PCAs
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license accepted at submission
- Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
- Minimum 1 year of travel nursing experience required
- Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
- Experience with ICP monitoring, ventilator management, and telemetry required
- Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, blood product administration, and central line care
- Experience with CVA/acute stroke management, hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun, and post neurosurgery management
- Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Experience with continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation monitoring preferred
- Experience with BiPAP/CPAP management and ABG interpretation preferred
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing for complex neuroscience and neurosurgical ICU patients
- Manage invasive equipment and titrate high-acuity medication drips
- Scrubs not provided; navy blue, white, or a combination of both required
- Orientation is 24 hours, conducted weekly
- Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
- Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- Up to 7 days of RTO auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Former Novant Health or New Hanover PRN/PERM/EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying as a travel candidate
- Travel pairs allowed if on different units and disclosed at submission
