Description
American Traveler is seeking an Emergency Dept RN for a Level I trauma center night shift role requiring recent Level I/II trauma experience and an active NE or compact RN license.
Details
- Level I Trauma Center, Pediatric Certified, and Comprehensive Stroke Center in an acute care setting
- 20-bed ED including 5 trauma bays, 10 OBS beds, hallway beds, a 6-bed Fast Track, and a 3-bed triage area
- Patient ratios of 1:4 in zones, 1:6 in Fast Track, 1:5 in OBS, and 1:1 in ICU/Trauma
- Common diagnoses include trauma, sepsis, chest pain, shortness of breath, and stroke requiring TPA
- Handles common drips typical of Level I trauma emergency departments
- Charts using EPIC EMR
- 12-hour night shifts with start times varying between 0700-1900, 0900-2100, 1100-2300, 1500-0300, and 1900-0700
- 36 guaranteed hours per week
- Weekend and holiday requirements vary based on department needs
- Floats to the OBS unit and Freestanding Creighton ER at least once per week
- Charge nurse present on every shift with ED physicians and mid-levels staffed
- 24/7 in-house security within the ED
- Nurse aides, EMTs, and paramedics staffed at ratios of 1:10 in OBS and 1:20 in main ED
- Tele/monitor techs are present, but RNs are required to read and interpret their own strips
Requirements
- Active RN license (Nebraska state or Compact/NLC)
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications required; NRP preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Recent Level I or Level II trauma emergency department experience required
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify residency distance
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
Additional Information
- One week of unit-specific orientation including 2 shifts at the main facility and 1 shift at the Freestanding ER
- Open-book pass/fail exam administered during orientation on skills learned; a 90% score is required to pass
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility per radius rule
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
- RTO must be requested upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
- Fast-paced, high-acuity work environment
- Facility may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
