Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Long Term Acute Care Respiratory Care Unit position requiring 1-2 years of experience and a CT or compact RN license.

Details

• Long term acute care hospital setting in the Respiratory Care Unit (RCU)
• 36-bed unit caring for respiratory-focused, vent-dependent patients in a medical (non-traditional Med/Surg) environment
• Patient ratios are 1:9 for day/evening shifts and 1:12 for night shifts
• 12-hour night shift schedule from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend required
• Float required to similar chronic care units including RCU2 (Respiratory Step-Down Unit, 38 beds, 1:9 day/evening and 1:12 night ratios) and TRU (TBI and medically complex chronic care, 1:7-10 day/evening and 1:12 night ratios)
• May split a 12-hour shift between two units, such as 4 hours on one unit and 8 hours on another
• Travelers are prioritized for floating assignments

Requirements

• Active CT or compact RN license required
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification preferred
• 1-2 years of RN experience required
• Prior travel experience preferred
• Experience with respiratory or ventilated patients strongly preferred
• Skilled in IV starts, IV drips, blood administration, EKGs, medication titration, and glucose monitoring
• Experience with wound vac changes and both complex and simple wound dressings
• Competent in trach care, suctioning, straight catheterization, and foley care
• Experience with port access, central line dressing, and wound measurements

Additional Information

• Nurses are responsible for a wide range of clinical duties but do not manage ventilators, as respiratory therapists handle vent management
• Care is provided to a medically complex patient population including TBI and chronic care cases
