Description

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg-Oncology RN for a night shift position requiring an active WV or compact RN license and at least 2 years of acute care experience.

Details

• 36-bed Post-Op/Oncology/Tele unit in an acute care, Trauma Level 2 hospital
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:5-6
• Patient population includes general Med/Surg, post-op cases (lap chole, lap appy), and oncology patients with complications such as neutropenic precautions, pneumonia, or infections
• Permanent staff administer chemotherapy; frequent chest tube management including PleurX catheters for oncology patients
• Occasional psychiatric patients requiring 1:1 sitter supervision
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) with every-other-weekend rotation (Sat/Sun)
• Required to work holidays as part of the standard rotation with perm staff
• Floats to any Med/Surg or Tele unit as needed
• Uses EPIC EMR
• Titrates Heparin drips only; no cardiac drips administered
• Phillips telemetry monitors used; RNs must independently read and interpret strips despite central monitor tech support
• 24/7 charge nurse coverage, with night shift charge nurse taking a patient assignment
• 3 CNAs staffed on both day and night shifts

Requirements

• Active RN license (WV or Compact) required
• BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Acute care hospital experience required
• EPIC EMR experience preferred
• ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification is a plus
• Experience with PleurX chest tubes is highly desirable
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
• Copy of unexpired driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care including chest tube management and monitoring of oncology and post-surgical patients
• Royal blue scrubs required; false nails are not permitted
• Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility; local candidates will not be considered
• Returning travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
