Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg-Neuro RN for a day shift assignment requiring NIHSS certification and a NM or compact RN license.
Details
- 32-bed Medical Surgical - Neuro unit
- Day shift schedule (3x12 hours, 6:30 AM-7:00 PM)
- 36 or 48-hour weekly options, with overtime for hours beyond 48
- Nurse to patient ratio of 1:6
- Weekend rotation of 6 shifts within 6 weeks
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required to like units within scope, with brief unit orientation provided
- Participates in rapid response team activation
- Uses Epic charting system
Requirements
- Active RN license (NM state or compact) required, pending license accepted if obtained prior to start
- Required certifications: BLS and NIHSS
- CPI certification preferred
- 1 year of recent relevant nursing experience required
- 1:6 patient ratio experience required
- Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line and PICC line management, and peripheral line care
- Respiratory care skills including chest tube management, HFNC, nasal cannula, and oxygen administration
- Experience with colostomy/ileostomy and feeding tube care
- CVA (cerebrovascular accident) experience preferred
- Medication administration experience with Heparin, Insulin, and PCA
- Wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions/PPE knowledge
- Experience with renal failure and pre/post hemodialysis management
- Surgical drain management experience
Additional Information
- Provide medical-surgical nursing care to a neurological patient population
- First-time travelers accepted, provided they have at least 24 months of nursing experience
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
- Previous staff members must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Travel pairs or groups are not accepted
- No more than 3 days of RTO will be auto-approved, and no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation
