Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical Progressive Care Unit position requiring at least 2 years of experience and near-ICU level acuity skills.

Details

• Surgical PCU with near-ICU level acuity
• Patient population includes ENT (neck dissections, mandibulectomy), Thoracic (esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy), General Surgery (pancreatic, bowel/liver resections), Urology (urinary diversions, cystectomies, RPLND), and medical overflow
• Staffing ratio of 1:3-4
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-7:30)
• Every other weekend required, with possible consecutive weekends based on operational needs
• Floating required to Med-Surg, PCU, or ICU levels of care within the hospital or nearby affiliate hospitals
• Charge nurse responsibilities may be required with training provided
• Cerner charting system required

Requirements

• Active IN or Compact RN license required in hand prior to start
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience required
• Proficient in cardiac monitoring, chest tube management, fresh trach care, feeding tube management, post-op patient care, epidurals, non-titratable cardiac drips, IV insulin protocols, external BiPAP/CPAP, total laryngectomy care, and Doppler flap checks
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Cerner charting experience required
• Nursing degree from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation
• 2 supervisor references required
• SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide surgical progressive care nursing to a high-acuity patient population
• Precepting and/or supervising student shadowing may be required as this is a teaching facility
• Must agree to float 100% as required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals
• Refusal to float may result in contract termination
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• RTO of 5 days or less can be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates (IN residents) are not accepted for this unit
• Past IU Health perm or PRN employees must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Current or past IU Health travelers with 12 months of accrued travel employment must complete a designated break before starting a new assignment
