Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical Progressive Care Unit position requiring at least 2 years of experience and near-ICU level acuity skills.
Details
- Surgical PCU with near-ICU level acuity
- Patient population includes ENT (neck dissections, mandibulectomy), Thoracic (esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy), General Surgery (pancreatic, bowel/liver resections), Urology (urinary diversions, cystectomies, RPLND), and medical overflow
- Staffing ratio of 1:3-4
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-7:30)
- Every other weekend required, with possible consecutive weekends based on operational needs
- Floating required to Med-Surg, PCU, or ICU levels of care within the hospital or nearby affiliate hospitals
- Charge nurse responsibilities may be required with training provided
- Cerner charting system required
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license required in hand prior to start
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of recent experience required
- Proficient in cardiac monitoring, chest tube management, fresh trach care, feeding tube management, post-op patient care, epidurals, non-titratable cardiac drips, IV insulin protocols, external BiPAP/CPAP, total laryngectomy care, and Doppler flap checks
- Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
- Cerner charting experience required
- Nursing degree from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation
- 2 supervisor references required
- SSN and DOB required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide surgical progressive care nursing to a high-acuity patient population
- Precepting and/or supervising student shadowing may be required as this is a teaching facility
- Must agree to float 100% as required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals
- Refusal to float may result in contract termination
- Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- RTO of 5 days or less can be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates (IN residents) are not accepted for this unit
- Past IU Health perm or PRN employees must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler
- Current or past IU Health travelers with 12 months of accrued travel employment must complete a designated break before starting a new assignment
