Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position requiring an active AK RN license and telemetry/cardiac experience.
Details
- Stepdown unit from ICU serving a wide variety of patient populations across multiple disciplines
- Utilizes a Co-Care/Virtual Nursing Model with 1 bedside RN, 1 Virtual RN, and 1 CNA per patient
- Bedside RN patient ratio is 1:4, with CNA ratio at 1:6
- Patient population includes approximately 30% cardiac patients (CHF, MI, TAVR, MVR, pacemaker, arrhythmia, ACS) as well as respiratory, neuro overflow, renal overflow, and complex medical-surgical patients
- Night shift schedule, 4x12 hours, 19:00-07:30
- Weekend coverage required, potentially more frequent than every other weekend based on staffing needs
- Float requirement includes lower acuity units, renal care, neuro, and med-surg within scope
- No on-call requirements
- Uses Epic charting system
Requirements
- Active AK RN license required, or license pending with ability to complete application within 48 hours of signing; license must be in hand for auto offer
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Epic charting experience required
- Experience with cardiac telemetry, respiratory care (BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, tracheostomy care), IV therapy, and central/peripheral line management preferred
- Two supervisory references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting required
- Full SSN and DOB required for consideration

- Level II Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital recognized as a USNWR Best Hospital in Alaska
- Scrubs provided by facility; free parking available
- May be required to float between sister facilities within the state; refusal to float may result in termination of assignment
- Must commit to working 3 of 5 designated holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
- All RTO requests must be submitted upfront; minimal RTO requests are strongly preferred to avoid delays in offer processing
- First-time travelers are accepted for this position
- Local candidates not accepted; permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility
- Former permanent staff may return as travelers after a 3-month waiting period, provided they reside outside the 50-mile radius
- Candidates must disclose any prior work history with Providence facilities as permanent, travel, or registry/per-diem staff
