Description

American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift RN for a Level 1 Trauma PCU Oncology/Med Surg unit requiring 2 years of experience and an active NE or compact RN license.

Details

  • Acute care setting in a PCU Oncology unit (5 North) with 18 beds
  • Primary patient population includes adult oncology PCU and trauma PCU patients
  • Patient ratios of 1:4-1:5 for both day and night shifts
  • 12-hour night shifts from 6:30p to 7:00a
  • Every other weekend required
  • Self-scheduling that balances with unit needs
  • EPIC EMR used
  • Floats to other Med/Surg and PCU units at the same level of care
  • Uses Alaris IV pumps
  • Lyko lifts available in even-numbered rooms with additional lift equipment on the unit
  • High-flow respiratory equipment commonly used
  • RNs occasionally titrate Insulin and Cardizem drips
  • Common medications include chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, and protonix

Requirements

  • Active NE or compact RN license required, pending licenses not accepted
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA)
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Oncology experience preferred, strong PCU experience also considered
  • ONS/ONCC certification preferred but not required
  • Chemo certification preferred but not required
  • Driver's license required at time of consideration to verify residence
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to oncology and trauma PCU patients, including chemotherapy administration and drip titration
  • Support hourly rounding and bedside shift report as part of the unit's patient experience focus
  • Work alongside a support team including nursing assistants, charge nurse, PT/OT, RN case manager, social worker, educator, and dietitian
  • Care for a diverse patient population from diagnosis through remission or end-of-life care
  • Two days of unit orientation provided
  • Must pass a pass/fail open-book exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver's license
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Charge nurse experience not required
